"SHORTY" my family's first Pembroke Welsh Corgi in 1978
My love affair with dogs began when I was born. My Mom told me stories of me playing with Ginger (Collie Mix) in her dog house when I was 3 years old and sharing her dog food with her - something that today sounds so gross! but I guess I didn't mind it back then. From there we had a Chi/TerrierX named Bobo that gave me the scar on my lip. Over the years we had various dogs, and always more than one at a time, and as they would get old and we would always add a mix of some sort or another. When I was 18 in 1978 we got our fist Pembroke Welsh Corgi named "Shorty" (pictured above) that was a free to good home ad on the local radio station. My Mom brought him over to the McDonald's where I was working to show him to me on my break. We all loved that little dog to pieces! And it was the start of a love affair with the breed that continues to this day. We lost Shorty in 1983 when he fell off of my Mom & Dad's bed and was injured and paralyzed and had to be put down. At that time I had met my husband Bob and the following spring we were married. Of course we had to have a dog so we went to the Macomb County Animal Control and adopted a Golden Retriever we named Max. In the mean time my parents had found another Corgi - a puppy Cardigan that we drove to Wyandotte MI to purchase. She was named Lacy and was shortly after joined by another Pembroke named Cindee.
Bob and I in the mean time had sold our house and bought some property where we built a commercial dog boarding kennel. It was a great experience but we ended up selling it as Bob couldn't sleep at night as the train track ran across the front and woke him up every 2 hours. During that period we lost Max and bought Tiffany (Timberland's Tiffany Rose 8/1/1988 - 4/24/2003) who we started obedience lessons with. We learned a lot about about good vs bad trainers during that period and Tiffany never saw the ring.
